Heather Spence uses the power of music to bring people together. Embracing techniques from renaissance to rock, she uses her training in behavioral neurosciences and bioacoustics to create music that motivates, soothes, or inspires.
Based in NYC and DC, she performs internationally solo and in ensembles, including Saltanah Ensemble (Middle Eastern), Laz Tiyas (Ladino), Ana Masry (Egyptian), and the chamber orchestra of Cancun. Her compositions range from music for phone answering services to viol consorts. She teaches privately and leads workshops in improvisation and integrating music into multimedia performance.
A graduate of the George Washington University Presidential Arts Scholars program, she has also trained with leading edge musicans including David Howard (Cello), Flory Jagoda (Voice), and Forrest Tobey (Piano and Composition). An elected member of the board of directors of the Viola da Gamba Society of America, Heather recently started the first chapter in Mexico.
